Laurena Anderson joined Ventures as a Financial Capability Specialist in July 2016.

As an AmeriCorps VISTA sponsored by United Way of King County, Laurena is helping Ventures design, develop and implement a saver’s group for their entrepreneur clients. The saver’s group will help decrease the need to utilize high-cost financial products in the event of a financial setback. Laurena joined Ventures because she wants to build financial stability in her community and saw an excellent opportunity to be involved in nonprofit work that supports these efforts.

Laurena graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Central Washington University in June 2016. She became interested in anti-poverty work and financial empowerment after participating in United Way of King County’s VITA program as a tax volunteer. VITA helps hard-working, low-income individuals and families keep more of what they earn and save for the future. She would someday love to start a business selling home-made knitted items.
